Responsible Tourism Policy

Where possible we design and operate our expeditions in a way that gives the highest degree of long-term economic benefit to local communities, whilst maintaining and improving the environment.

  • We use local suppliers wherever possible
  • We develop long-term relationships overseas so that we can support local businesses and communities whilst building relationships in-country
  • Our teams are responsible for the correct disposal of their own waste in-country and we as a company work to a zero litter policy in all of our destinations
  • We actively avoid buying bottled water and provide all participants with purification systems, therefore helping to reduce plastic waste
  • We aim to ensure that our type of tourism is appropriate to local conditions and does not overload local infrastructure
  • We send our paperwork via email to reduce paper usage. Where this is not possible, paper is from recyclable sources
  • We take into consideration economic, environmental, and cultural issues when looking at new destinations
  • We work closely with local bodies to help preserve and improve the environment
  • We encourage our clients to use biodegradable shampoos and detergents to prevent pollution of natural water systems and to avoid purchasing products that exploit or aid in the destruction of habitats and species
  • Local involvement is vital to our expeditions and we provide financial support for economic, social, or environmental projects that will benefit local communities
  • We encourage our clients to act in a socially responsible way
  • We attempt to impart an insight and understanding of the host culture and community to our teams so that they gain an understanding of their destination and its people before they arrive
  • Energy consumption in our offices is monitored and, where possible, reduced. We also have numerous recycling point throughout our offices
  • We support WAP's Elephant Friendly Tourism Pledge promoting elephant-friendly travel across all destinations where elephant-related activities are available
  • We provide regular and ongoing training in the principles and practices of responsible tourism.
