La Siberia is a comarca in the northeastern portion of the province of Badajoz in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. Its capital is the municipality of Herrera del Duque. The comarca is bordered on the north by the provinces of Cáceres and Toledo, on the west by Las Vegas Altas comarca, on the south by La Serena comarca, and on the east by the province of Ciudad Real.

 

The district contains 18 municipalities with a combined area of 2,943 km2 but a population of only 29,214 people.

Day One

Fly to Madrid in the morning. Afternoon bus transfer to Extremadura region. Evening spent in a local campsite.

Day Two

The team will organise support donkey's before heading into the wilderness. Today's trek will follow the course of rivers, through barren canyons and deserts. The evening will be spent wild camping in a canyon.

Day Three

The trek will finish at the Castillo de Zafra which sits atop a regal promontory in a setting that may as well be populated with roaming dragons! Built in the 12th century, the tall towers of the castle sit atop a massive rock located on what was once the border between Christian and Muslim territories. The afternoon will be spent exploring the castle before being transferred to a local town for dinner.

Day Four

Bus transfer to the Embalse de Plasencia which is the main area in the region for water sports. Canoe down the river Alagon from the bridge of Macarron Riolobos to the town of Coria. Evening in a local hotel experiencing the local cuisine.

 

 

Day Five

Morning spent wandering around a deserted village before heading to Madrid. Lunch in Madrid and afternoon flight back to the UK.
